Quantum Physicist

Bereneice Sephton

Bereneice Sephton is a quantum physicist recognised for her work in quantum imaging, teleportation, and secure communication.

Dr Bereneice Sephton is a quantum physicist specialising in quantum optics, structured light, and nonlinear photonics. She earned her PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she was the first to demonstrate the transfer of high-dimensional images across a quantum network using a nonlinear optical detector — a breakthrough often described as “quantum teleportation of images.” Her doctoral research also advanced single-pixel quantum ghost imaging, enabling the visualisation of previously invisible features of objects using quantum light.

She is currently an assistant professor in the Quantum Photonics Group at the University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy, where her research focuses on engineering structured quantum states and applying structured light to next-generation imaging and secure quantum communication.
